INS -
The INS is the name people generally use when referring to the US Department of Immigration and Naturalization. The INS has the daunting task of overseeing the entrance into the US of all foreigners who want to visit America or remain here on a permanent basis. There are many more people who want to come to America than there is room for, and the INS has the daunting task of trying to determine which of the hundreds of thousands of applicants should be allowed into the country, and who should be denied. The terrorist attacks of September 11th have only increased the burden on officials of the INS, because now they have to determine whether any of the people who are seeking asylum in our country are actually seeking entrance in order to threaten our country from within. Because of the continued terrorist threat, there is considerably more paperwork required of potential immigrants by the INS than there used to be before the terrorist attacks took place. If you are interested in coming to America, either on a temporary basis or as a permanent resident, contact the INS.
