DBA -

DBA is short for \"doing business as.\" Many people start a small business, whether a sole proprietorship or a partnership, by registering it under their own name. When this occurs, the business owners often choose a name for the business and then go the DBA route using that name.

DBA enables you to legally operate your company under a fictious name. For example, if someone named Donna starts a communications firm with her friends Mary and Sandra, they can say that their DBA name is DMN Communications.

By formally declaring DBA, business owners are formally and legally telling the world that they, their partners, or their company are undertaking business using a different name than their own. The term DBA is regularly used in contracts.

To declare a DBA, business owners must pay a fee to their county clerks office. The fee for a DBA declaration can be anywhere from $10 to $100. Banks will also request that business owners get a certificate to proving their DBA status.
